Public comments on a Federal Aviation Administration proposal to make flight restrictions near Mar-a-Lago permanent are due Thursday, Oct. 2. The proposal would restrict aircraft within one nautical mile of the Palm Beach property below 2,000 feet when the president is in town. The FAA says the limits are needed for presidential security and were proposed at the U.S. Secret Service’s request. Comments can be submitted through Regulations.gov.
The restrictions have changed flight paths around Donald J. Trump International Airport. Palm Beach County is pursuing a legal challenge against the federal government over the limits and their effects on airport operations and nearby communities. Local leaders sought more time to comment, but the FAA denied the request.
