According to BocaNewsNow.com, Boca Raton’s Utility Services Department plans to temporarily switch water disinfection from chloramine to free chlorine from Sunday, Sept. 27, through Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026.

During that period, customers may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor. The city says the water remains safe to drink. Fire hydrant flushing will continue, and residents may see water in streets and swales, lower water pressure in some areas, or slightly discolored tap water. The city says those temporary conditions do not pose a health risk.

The city urged people who use home kidney dialysis machines, tropical fish aquarium owners, and stores or restaurants with fish or shellfish holding tanks to seek professional guidance because free chlorine is tested for and removed differently than chloramine.
